Two Circles and Squares.
Barbara Hepworth 1968.
Back in the 60's every new building project had to spend 2% of its
budget on a piece of artwork. Huge 60's edifices would some how attempt
to counteract their ugliness with artistic gestures such as mosiacs
and scultpures. Sometimes though the art made to go with the building,
outshines the building it was meant to compliment. Outside Liverpool
University's senate house sits Squares and Circles, a big bronze monolith.
This is the original, only 2 other copies exist. If you've ever wanted
to touch Dame Hepworths signature this is the place to do it. Free
postcards of this picture are available on request.
